According to the Associated Press, the Boy Scouts have decided to delay a decision about a possible policy change until the executive board can prepare a resolution to be voted on by the 1,400 voting members of the national council. This vote would take place at their May, 2013 annual meeting which will be held in Grapevine, Texas.
"After careful consideration and extensive dialogue within the Scouting family, along with comments from those outside the organization, the volunteer officers of the Boy Scouts of America's National Executive Board concluded that due to the complexity of this issue, the organization needs time for a more deliberate review of its membership policy," said Deron Smith, BSA director of public relations, in a statement.
In the meantime, family groups such as the American Family Association (AFA) are calling on the public to lobby for the resignation of AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson, who serves on the BSA board and has been leading the charge to change the policy to allow homosexual scouts, leaders and volunteers.
"It seems Stephenson's mission is to destroy the Boy Scouts of America from within," writes AFA president Tim Wildmon. "As an executive board member, he is using his corporate influence to bully the BSA into gay assimilation. It's time for Stephenson to resign."
As Wildmon points out, AT&T has already cut funding to the BSA, which creates a direct personal conflict of interest for Stephenson.
"It's reasonable to expect members of the BSA board to lead in ways that exemplify the very basic values that made BSA successful. Stephenson has shown that he doesn't."
Because Stephenson is set become chairman of the BSA board in 2014, unless he resigns, "you can expect he will push even harder to force the gay agenda."
