Bishops Issue Stinging Condemnation of HHS Plan to Mandate Contraceptive Coverage

By Susan Brinkmann, OCDS Staff Journalist Cardinal Daniel DiNardo of Galveston-Houston, chairman of the Committee on Pro-Life Activities of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has issued a statement that strongly opposes the recommendation of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) mandate coverage of surgical sterilization and all FDA-approved birth control in private health insurance plans nationwide.

ObamaCare Birth Control Mandate Appears Imminent

By Susan Brinkmann, OCDS Staff Journalist The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is expected to rule within weeks on a recommendation by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) that all insurance companies be forced to provide free coverage for contraceptives, a mandate that will come with no conscience protections for health care providers in insurance plan networks who do not wish to cover these drugs.

Group Wants USCCB to Correct "Faithful Citizenship" Document Before 2012

Ohio Bishop Instructs Parishes Not to Fundraise for Susan G. Komen Foundation

By Susan Brinkmann, OCDS Staff Journalist Bishop Leonard Blair of the Diocese of Toledo has issued a letter to all parishes instructing them to direct their fundraising efforts to local breast cancer centers rather than contribute to the Susan G. Komen Foundation because of its affiliation with Planned Parenthood and the possibility that it could become involved in embryonic stem cell research.

Lawmakers to Launch Investigation of Planned Parenthood

The Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee has announced plans to investigate a 37-page report issued last week by Americans United for Life (AUL) which outlines Planned Parenthood's long record of violating state laws in its abortion practice.
