Public Has Until April 9 to Comment on Conscience Protections

By  Susan Brinkmann, OCDS Staff Writer Anyone wishing to voice their opinion about President Barack Obama’s decision to dump the Provider Conscience Clause – the regulations put in place by President Bush to protect doctors and medical facilities from having to perform medical procedures that violate their conscience – has until April 9 to do so.

Renewed Amendment Spares Human Embryos

By Susan Brinkmann, OCDS Staff Writer President Barack Obama may have lifted the ban on federal funding of embryonic stem cell research, but the U.S. appropriations bill he signed two days later contained an amendment that prohibits  “research in which a human embryo or embryos are destroyed, discarded, or knowingly subjected to risk of injury or death greater than that allowed for research on fetuses.”

Vatican Official Condemns Sebelius Nomination

Burke, Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura, called the nomination of pro-abortion Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius as Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) "offensive" and a “source of greatest embarrassment” to the Catholic Church.
