Without the ardor of charity, which is the characteristic property and the certain indication of that interior life, all things else profit nothing. The mere increase of organs without a corresponding vital energy would do nothing more than multiply needs and afflictions. "Thou hast multiplied the nation, and hast not increased the joy."
