Is Susan Powell's Old House Haunted?

In 2009, Susan Powell, a young Salt Lake City mother of two disappeared from her home, never to be seen or heard from again. When her husband, Josh, came under suspicion for the disappearance and possible murder of his wife, he moved to Washington state. With the children sent off to live with Susan's parents during the subsequent investigation, the family home was left empty.

However, the situation changed in 2012 when Josh Powell killed himself along with their two boys, and the couple's Utah house was left in a trust as the details of the estate are worked out. In the meantime, the house went on the rental market.

Enter the Aerosana family who moved into the charming house in West Valley City, Utah this summer. What seemed like an idyllic house quickly turned into a nightmare with mysterious events beginning almost immediately after they moved in.

Most notably, “I hear people crying when I’m showering,” Joanna Aerosana told KUTV.

She also said the garage door opens and closes on its own.

However, the most bizarre manifestation occurred to her toddler son who she found talking to an empty swing, telling whoever he saw on it to "go away, leave me alone."

She didn't know what to make of the situation until a neighbor told her that this was the house Susan Powell disappeared from one night in 2009.

The Aerosana's promptly moved out and are now asking the company that rented the home to allow them to break the lease, and find them another home. Although realtors aren't required to disclose information about the former inhabitants of the homes they buy, rent or sell, Joanna believes they have a moral obligation to do so in cases such as this one.

After reading several news accounts about the episode, it became obvious to me that the home was infested with demons, especially because of the violence in the Powell's history.

According to a KOMO news report from 2013, the couple had experienced years of financial and marital troubles with the relationship so stormy that Susan felt as if her life was in danger. She not only made a secret video tape of the belongings in her home, she also wrote out a will in which she stated:  “I want it documented that there is extreme turmoil in our marriage… If I die, it may not be an accident, even if it looks like one.”

Obviously, there was violence in the home, which is one of Satan's most obvious calling cards.

There is also the possibility that Susan was killed in the home and driven elsewhere. According to police reports. they were initially investigating the disappearance of the whole family when Josh and the boys suddenly turned up after taking what he called a "winter camping trip". Josh insisted that Susan had not accompanied them. Police thought this was very strange, as was the discovery of two fans flowing on a wet spot on the carpet when they came to the house to interview him. Also discovered that day were Susan's purse, keys and cell phone.

Later, one of the boys told police that "mommy was in the trunk" of their car during the alleged camping trip.

My thought is that demons are infesting this home and it should be blessed - or exorcised if necessary - by a priest before anyone else be allowed to move into it.

The fact that demons can remain after a violent event like this is borne out by the story of a couple who purchased a home in Italy in 2005 where, unbeknownst to them, a young girl had been exorcised of a demon in 1977. The new owner, Gaetano Bastianelli, 57, loved the home even though it was built close to an old cemetery and they heard stories about strange happenings in the house that led to the exorcism.

"The ghosts started their haunting on the first night," said Mr Bastianelli, a former long-distance truck driver, told The Telegraph. "I woke suddenly at around one or two in the morning. There was water seeping from under the bathroom door. The hot water tap was pouring out boiling water and the room was full of steam. My wife was stunned, because she had turned off everything before going to bed."

The next morning, he found "luminous green mold all over the walls".

The activity progressed from the sound of chains rattling to the spontaneous combustion of his wife's car and the family's lawnmower.

A local historian named Sergio Grifoni confirmed that an exorcism had been performed on a girl in the house in 1977.

"The local papers at the time said a girl had been possessed by the devil and had been taken to the bishop. Nothing helped, until Pope John Paul II prayed for her," Grifoni told The Telegraph.

It was almost 30 years later when the Bastianelli family, who is now suing the former owner, moved into the house. It is not known how many other families suffered the same mysterious happenings while living in the house.

Yes, demons infest places and can stay there as long as they want - or until Someone with authority steps in to show them the door.
