Justice Ginsburg Wants All-Female Supreme Court

When Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is asked when she thinks there will be enough women on the bench in the nation's highest court, she tells them when all nine seats are filled by women.

CNSNews.com is reporting that Ginsburg made the remarks at the 10th Circuit Bench and Bar Conference which was held last month at the University of Colorado in Boulder.

During the conference, University of Colorado Law School Dean Phil Weiser asked her: “When you joined the court, Sandra Day O’Connor had been the only woman for some time and you became two. After she left, you went back to having only a single woman, and now there are three. Could you reflect some on the dynamics of the court in terms of what it means to have a woman or more than one woman?” Weiser asked.

At first, Ginsburg commented on how her predecessor, Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, returned to the bench just "nine days after breast cancer surgery," which was far better than she did when waiting three weeks to return after pancreatic cancer surgery.

Returning to the question at hand, she said: "So now the perception is, yes, women are here to stay. And when I’m sometimes asked when will there be enough [women on the court]? And I say when there are nine, people are shocked. But there’d been nine men, and nobody’s ever raised a question about that."
