Woman Sues Church over Homosexual “Commitment Ceremony”

By Susan Brinkmann, OCDS Staff Journalist An elderly parishioner of the Covenant Baptist Church in Washington DC was so upset when her church performed a homosexual “commitment ceremony” that she decided to sue the church for the return of a portion of her weekly donations. CNN is reporting that Yvonne Moore, who had been a member of the church for 37 years, felt personally betrayed by the pastor’s decision to preside over a ceremony uniting a lesbian couple. "I don't believe in that,” Moore said. “I'm southern Baptist. The Bible speaks against it - you can't take that into a church." The decision by pastors Christine and Denis Wiley to make their parish into a more "inclusive body of Biblical believers" not only cost them half their congregation, but brought them a lawsuit as well when Moore decided they owed her a portion of the estimated $250,0000 she’s given in weekly donations over the years. "I was upset,” Moore said. “I give them ten cents out of every dollar. I pay tithes, and they didn't respect the members enough to listen to us." Moore said she attended the ceremony, but it was out of disbelief that such a thing would happen in her church, and said she found it “totally disgusting.” The pastors do not share her feelings and insist that celebrating the lesbian couple’s union was the right thing to do. "You cannot just read a Bible and think that somehow you have now mastered the word of God," said Dennis Wiley. Although Moore has since decided to drop her case, she says she won't be returning to that church any time soon. © All Rights Reserved, Living His Life Abundantly®/Women of Grace®  http://www.womenofgrace.com
