Although I was a baptized Catholic I did not stay the course as regards church teaching and obedient living.
Back in the day when Eastern philosophies, such as practicing Transcendental Meditation, were all the rage, I began TM hoping to find inner peace. I was told TM would not conflict with religion such as Catholicism or Judaism; this is a blatant lie.
My practice lasted for several years as I continued in my secular lifestyle. I believed in God but had not entered into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
As I entered my 40's I longed for the peace that transcends all understanding, and so I came to know Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit whom He left to guide His church. I began Bible studies and attended Mass. My real breakthrough came when I signed up for the Women of Grace Foundational Study. This wonderful study led me to much needed self-reflection, a deep understanding about the transformative power of the Mass and Eucharist and to see the holy sacrifice of the Mass from a new vista.
The study revealed to me much needed inner healing due to past wounds of the heart. Bringing these wounds to our gracious and merciful Lord brought about a soothing balm and I began to heal over time... and so, God began to use me, by His grace, to birth His love to others.
My heart and mind was opened to the School of Mary and her role in salvation history. Now I continually call upon Mother Mary to assist me in the growth of her virtues.
Attending weekday Mass, frequenting the sacrament of reconciliation and spending time in Eucharistic Adoration has led me to a new boldness in the Holy Spirit. To be a practicing Catholic is joyful and serving as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector is not only an honor but His peace is made present. Defending the faith is most important to me and we can avail ourselves with the tools given to us through this apostolate.
Serving as a Women of Grace facilitator and participating in other Women of Grace studies, attending morning of grace gatherings and leadership zooms keep me in touch with this vibrant sacred sisterhood. The Women of Grace sisterhood is helpful, earnest, friendly, and sincere. The Television program, hosted by Johnnette Benkovic Williams, who is well versed on matters of faith, shares great book recommendations and features many informative theologians and other guests, have helped me to stay informed and continually grow in faith.
