Month of the Holy Rosary: Reflections on the Luminous Mysteries

by Theresa Cavicchio

As we continue our month-long look at the events of Our Lady’s rosary, we turn toward the second group of Mysteries. The Luminous Mysteries, filling the gap between the Joyful and Sorrowful, were given to us by Pope Saint John Paul II in 2002 as an addition to the three traditional groups of long standing.

Into each Christian

September 25
"...the Eucharist is a mode of being, which passes from Jesus into each Christian, through whose testimony it is meant to spread throughout society and culture. For this to happen, each member of the faithful must assimilate, through personal and communal meditation, the values which the Eucharist expresses, the attitudes it inspires, the resolutions to which it gives rise."
-St. John Paul II
Today’s Reflection:
What does the Eucharist being a "mode of being" mean to you?

In the Sacred Heart

June 16
"In the Sacred Heart, every treasure of wisdom and knowledge is hidden.
In that divine heart beats God’s infinite love for everyone and
for each of us as individuals."
– St. John Paul II
Today's Reflection
Isn't it awesome to think that the Sacred Heart of Jesus beats for every single person ever created? But even more amazing is that it beats just for you.

Pray the Rosary

May 30
"Pray the Rosary for children, and even more, with children, training them from their earliest years to experience this daily pause for prayer with the family, is admittedly not the solution to every problem, but it is a spiritual aid which should not be underestimated."
-St. John Paul II, Rosarium Virginis Mariae
Today’s Reflection:
Prayer of the Holy Rosary can be a powerful weapon in your spiritual arsenal, particularly as a spiritual mother. How can you make use of the Rosary more regularly as a means of intercession for your family, friends, and spiritual children?

Demands of the heart

February 5
"Jesus does not say 'no' to the authentic demands of the heart, but only a clear, loud 'yes' to life, to love, to freedom, to peace and to hope. With Him no goal is impossible and even a small act of generosity grows and can lead to change."
-St. John Paul the Great
Today's Reflection
What are the demands of my heart? Are they demands that desire God's will alone, or are they demands that have grown from my own desires to serve myself?

The future is in your hands

February 1
"The future is in your hearts and in your hands. God is entrusting to you the task, at once difficult and uplifting, of working with Him in the building of the civilization of love."
-St. John Paul the Great
Today's Reflection:
Wow! What a mission that God has entrusted to each of us - TO LOVE! In my own life, where is God calling me to love? And more specifically, who is God calling me to love at this very moment? Spend some time in prayer today thanking God for the love He has shown you, and ask Him to lead you in loving others in the same way.

Put out into the deep

January 31
"And when he had ceased speaking, he said to Simon, 'Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.'"
-Luke 5:4
Today's Reflection:
St. John Paul II encouraged all Catholics to enter the hope-filled waters of the New Evangelization. Here are eight ways you can prepare yourself to share the Catholic Faith with others (PASS IT ON): Pray, accept the call, study, sacrifice, intercede, teach by example, organize your testimony, no excuses!
Prayerfully read each word and then plan a personal strategy to implement it in your daily life. Through the grace of God, we can work together to infuse the world with the Truth who is Jesus Christ.

Let us forgive

January 30
"Let us forgive and ask forgiveness!...The acceptance of God's forgiveness leads to the commitment to forgive our brothers and sisters and to be reconciled with them."
-St. John Paul II
Today's Reflection:
What practical strategies can you implement to live a life of forgiveness
as encouraged by St. John Paul II?

New saints are needed

January 13
"We need heralds of the Gospel who are experts in humanity, who know the depths of the heart of many today, who share in his hopes and joys, his worries and his sadness, and at the same time are contemplatives, in love with God. For this, new saints are needed."
-St. John Paul II
Today's Reflection:
God has given us life at this time to be the "new saints" and the "new evangelizers" who will proclaim His love to the world.
How is God calling you to fulfill this very mission in your own life?

Saint John Paul II: Prophet, Priest, Exorcist

By Kathleen Beckman

The renowned Pope John Paul II biographer George Weigel gave a moving keynote presentation on suffering in the life of St. John Paul II at the 2005 national conference of the Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious. The conference theme was Healing and the Mystery of Suffering. I was there to give my testimony of suffering and healing in the family but the greatest witness we heard was Weigel on the life of Karol Wojtyla. In the latter days of his life that played out on the theater of the world, the Polish Pope became an image of the Suffering Servant of whom the prophet Isaiah wrote so eloquently.
