In a recent gathering of the Women's Political Committee, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) swore that the spirits of several women suffragists appeared to her during a meeting she had with President George W. Bush.

CNSNews.com is reporting that Pelosi made the claim that she saw the ghosts of Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Alice Paul during White House meeting, and that she heard them say, "At last we have a seat at the table."

In this Youtube video, she explains that as the president was speaking, "he was fading and this other thing was happening to me. . . .

“My chair was getting crowded in. I swear this happened, never happened before, it never happened since. My chair was getting crowded in and I couldn’t figure out what it was, it was like this," she said.

"And then I realized Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Mott, Alice Paul, Sojourner Truth, you name it, they were all in that chair . . . . More than I named and I could hear them say: 'At last we have a seat at the table.' And then they were gone."

This is not the first time Pelosi told the bizarre tale. While speaking at a commencement at Goucher College in Baltimore in 2005 she gave a few more details about the very political "vision" she claims to have seen. 

"As the President started talking, I began to feel very squeezed in my chair. It was getting more and more crowded. It was as if every woman who had worked to promote women's opportunity was sitting on that chair with me. Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Sojourner Truth, and every other pioneer who fought to gain the right to vote for women, the right to be treated as an equal in the workplace, and the ability to make the decisions affecting their own lives and careers.

"Then I heard them say, 'At last, we have a seat at the table.' And then they were gone. My next thought was, 'We want more.' Because if America wants to reach its full potential, all of those in America need a seat at the table."

Pelosi, a Catholic, has been a strident supporter of abortion and "reproductive rights" issues throughout her long congressional career. In fact, her former deputy chief of staff, Cecile Richards, is now the president of Planned Parenthood.

For the record, Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton were activists in the women’s rights movement during the mid to late 1800’s, but both were against abortion and were strong pro-life supporters.  So whatever message they were giving to Ms. Pelosi during this mysterious vision surely had nothing to do with fighting for the kind of increased access to abortion and contraception that the congresswoman has supported for so long.
