Even though it has a policy against selling metaphysical services, Etsy was in the news last month for selling witchcraft services that resulted in a curse on Charlie Kirk. This month it’s for selling Psychic Soulmate Sketches. What will it be next? The Daily Mail is reporting on the story of a 29-year-old San Diego woman named Ashley Watson who decided to buy a $10 Psychic Soulmate Sketch on Etsy along with a friend just for fun.
“[My friend] was like, ‘How funny would it be if all the single girls [in the group] did this psychic reading and we revealed them at the cabin on the big screen together?’ Watson recounted in an interview with People. “I loved everything about it. It was a no-brainer.”
As promised on the Etsy listing, the offer included a tarot reading and came with a sketch of the man, along with a written description that detailed his hobbies and preferences, along with information about how and where they would meet. In Watson’s case, the psychic predicted she would meet her soulmate within zero to three months.
Eight days later, she met Carson, her now boyfriend, and their first date was a success.
"We had an amazing first date and great chemistry," Watson described of their first date.
Watson said she hadn't even thought about the Etsy psychic's prediction until her cousin reminded her about the photo and the striking similarity between Carson and the psychic’s sketch.
The similarities were close enough to make a believer out of Watson, whose story has now gone viral. Although she hesitated to tell Carson about the sketch, fearing it might scare him off, she eventually did so and the two are still dating.
What might seem like positive proof in the power of psychics, there have been complaints about soul mate sketches, and Watson’s story in particular. Some say the resemblance between Carson and the sketch is not all that remarkable, with one stating, “He’s white, that’s the only similarity.”
Another commenter remarked, “Girl, my Etsy Psychic sent me the exact same photo, they need to quit playing.”
In this report about soulmate sketches, most complaints about these services are about receiving generic sketches, long delivery times, and results that don’t match the customer’s expectations. In other words, they didn’t meet their soul mate.
But that doesn’t stop Etsy from selling these “arts & crafts” to their customers in spite of a clear policy that bans “Items that advertise a metaphysical outcome (e.g., attracting wealth, love, gambling luck, more business, employment opportunities, or assistance with legal or relationship situations).” The site features page after page of psychics selling soulmate advice from sketches to tarot readings to “Soul Contract Psychic Readings,” and “Twin Flame Spells.” Prices begin at a $1.50 and can be as high as $75.
Some of these psychics include Mother Odessa who refers to herself as “a gifted psychic deeply connected to the spiritual energies of love and soul connections.”
Another seller, named The Soulmate Psychic, claims that “From the moment of my birth, the stars hinted at a destiny intertwined with the mysteries of the universe. My early years were punctuated with dreams that echoed the whispers of the cosmos, intuitions that mirrored the intricate patterns of tarot cards, and a horoscope that promised a life dedicated to understanding the unseen.”
Etsy is obviously cashing in on the booming psychic marketplace. According to IBISWorld, annual revenue of psychic services rose 2.2% in 2025 to $2.3 billion a year. This increase is largely due to the waning of traditional skepticism about psychics in recent years.
“The economic downturn significantly boosted demand for services as many turned to spiritual guidance to navigate their anxieties about finances and outlook uncertainty. This uptick reflects a broader trend towards personalized and spiritual approaches to life's challenges, making psychic services a more mainstream part of many people's lives.”
With our younger generations turning to the dark arts rather than to God for guidance and support, it's no wonder that depression and suicide rates are at record levels in the U.S. They are discovering the hard way that psychics, who are well-known to be either con artists or tools of Satan, can only bring about momentary relief at best and, at worst, bitter disappointment.
