Family Wants Answers After Woman Dies in Planned Parenthood

The family of a 24 year-old woman who died after receiving an abortion at a Chicago Planned Parenthood is demanding answers as to what happened to cause her sudden death.

According to the Daily Mail, a medical examiner determined that Tonya Reaves died of a hemorrhage on Friday night after receiving a second trimester abortion at Planned Parenthood. Her death was ruled an accident, but her twin sister and family want to know how this could happen.

"It happened so fast. She was just fine one day and then the next day she was gone," said Toni Reaves, Tonya's twin sister, to CBS. "We’re just trying to figure out what happened… what happened."

Tonya underwent a cervical dilation and evacuation abortion, a procedure that is usually performed during a second trimester pregnancy and involves dismembering the fetus and removing it from the uterus using various devices.

At present, it is not clear if she died at the clinic or afterward in a local hospital.

"We were shocked and saddened upon learning of a tragic development at a nearby hospital," said Planned Parenthood of Illinois CEO Carole Brite in a statement.

"While legal abortion services in the United States have a very high safety record, a tragedy such as this is devastating to loved ones and we offer our deepest sympathies."

Some secular news organizations are reportig that less than 0.3 percent of abortion patients experience complications that require hospitalization, but in reality, it's almost impossible to know the actual number because health care facilities do not list "abortion" as a cause of death. As this report from the Elliot Institute explains, they list whatever complication resulted, such as "perforated uterus" or "hemorrhage" or "infection."

Tonya's death has renewed calls for the defunding and shuttering of Planned Parenthood clinics.

"Tonya joins Holly Patterson, Diana Lopez, and many other women who went into a Planned Parenthood facility and did not survive," said Jim Sedlak, vice president of American Life League.  "These deaths of healthy women are, of course, in addition to the 450 preborn female human beings who die at Planned Parenthood every day."

Sedlak is calling upon Planned Parenthood to close its doors all across America.

"Americans have made it clear that they do not want Planned Parenthood to exist any longer. It is closing down clinics for lack of money and customers; losing donations from individuals, foundations, and corporations; and seeing its taxpayer funding cut off in state after state, as well as in the House of Representatives. Planned Parenthood has been able to survive only through the erroneous intervention of judges in the funding process, its bullying tactics, and its own political muscle."

"Any organization that only exists through fear and intimidation will not be able to exist for long," Sedlak concluded. "Planned Parenthood needs to do the right thing and close down all its facilities now."
