“Big Beautiful Bill” Deals Major Blow to Planned Parenthood

The massive budget reconciliation bill known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” that was just passed in the U.S. House includes a provision that will deal a substantial monetary blow to Planned Parenthood.

As written, the bill will block federal funding via Medicaid reimbursement from Parenthood or any other clinic that provides abortion services. Considering the fact that 34 percent of the abortion giant’s income - or $2 million a day – comes from taxpayer funding, including Medicaid reimbursements, this would be a substantial blow to their bottom line.

Even though proponents of Planned Parenthood repeatedly claim that this provision in the bill will deny millions of women vital health care, the most recent report found that services at their clinic other than abortion were down 17 percent overall.

Cancer screening and prevention services dropped by 71 percent which includes a decline of 72 percent for breast exams and 74 percent for pap tests. Prenatal services dropped 80 percent from their peak in 2009 and even contraceptive services have declined by 39 percent. At the same time, their abortion services have increased 20 percent over the last decade.

Pro-abortion groups who have long sought the defunding of Planned Parenthood, are lauding the provision in the bill which does not appear to be a deal-breaker for many Republicans in either in the House or the Senate.

“SBA will proudly score in favor of this ‘one big beautiful bill’ that includes the vital priority of stopping forced funding of the abortion industry,” said Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “We applaud pro-life congresswomen…for speaking out during the debate to set the record straight and defeat a Democrat amendment that would have kept funneling money to Big Abortion….Patients are far better off going to community health centers that outnumber Planned Parenthood 15:1, where Medicaid recipients among others can get much more comprehensive care.”

March for Life released the following statement on the Big, Beautiful Bill. “We applaud Speaker Mike Johnson, Chairman Brett Guthrie, and the House Energy and Commerce Committee for including a provision to defund Big Abortion providers. Congressional action to stop taxpayer funding of elective abortions is long overdue. Under this bill, instead of spending taxpayer dollars to end the lives of innocent unborn children and put their mothers at risk of harm, these funds will now be redirected to community based, qualified healthcare providers that support both mother and child.”

The US Bishops have also spoken out on the importance of defunding Planned Parenthood.

“Americans should not be forced to subsidize abortions and ‘gender transition’ services with their tax dollars,” said Bishop Daniel E. Thomas, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Committee on Pro-Life Activities, and Bishop Robert E. Barron, chairman of the USCCB Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life, and Youth.

“For decades, Planned Parenthood has received government money and offered low-income women one terrible option: to end the lives of their babies. More recently, they have used the same taxpayer funds to expand their destructive offerings, by promoting gender ideology and providing puberty blockers and hormones to minors, turning them into lifelong patients in the process. Americans should not be forced to subsidize abortions and ‘gender transition’ services with their tax dollars, and we applaud measures that will finally help to defund Planned Parenthood.”

With pro-life majorities in both the House and the Senate, the bill has a good chance of passing. The bill passed the House early this morning with a vote of 215-214. It will now be sent to the Senate where it will be amended, then sent back to the House for final approval. The White House is pressing for a final bill to make it to the President’s desk by July 4.

In addition to storming heaven with prayer, pro-life citizens are being asked to use this time to contact their representatives and urge them to pass this bill with the Planned Parenthood defunding in place!
