Study the Bible with a Renowned Scholar – in Your Own Home!

For many Christians around the world, the Lenten season is a time for devoting more attention to spiritual reading, particularly the Bible, which is why a new bible study, hosted by renowned Scripture Scholar Fr. Mitch Pacwa, S.J., which airs on EWTN beginning March 6, is the perfect way to fulfill this desire – and in the comfort of home.

EWTN has announced the new weekly Catholic Bible Study entitled, “Scripture and Tradition,” which will kick off on Tuesday, March 6 at 2:00 p.m. ET, with encores at 10:00 p.m. ET on Tuesdays and 9:00 a.m. Wednesdays. In this study, Father Mitch will talk about Scripture in light of Catholic Tradition and spotlight early Church documents that illuminate the way we understand the Bible.

The best part about the show is that it will be answering questions from the viewers who can post their questions on a special Facebook page set up by the network for this purpose.

Peter Gagnon, EWTN Vice President of Programming and Production and S&T Executive Producer is encouraging viewers to go to the page and post their questions because “this will be a big part of the show!”

As for Father Mitch, he has big plans for this new Bible study.

“I’ve already written a lot of Bible studies that are organized thematically,” said Fr. Mitch. “So we’re going to start off with my book, ‘Winning the Battle Against Sin,’ which deals with Biblical teaching on sin and forgiveness. After that, I’d like to counterbalance that with my Bible study called ‘Saved,’ which tackles the theme of salvation. I’ve also done Bible studies on the life of Christ. We’ll be taking his ministry step by step. Another approach I hope to take is to study the individual books of the Bible, starting with Isaiah and then Jeremiah and other books of the Bible.”

In addition to all of his hosting duties at EWTN, which include the weekly EWTN Live, Fr. Mitch is a prolific writer, who holds a Ph.D in Old Testament from Vanderbilt University, and an M. Div. and S.T.B. degrees in Theology from the Jesuit School of Theology at Loyola University Chicago. Father Mitch previously taught Scripture at Loyola as well as at the University of Dallas, and currently serves a Senior Fellow at the St. Paul Institute for Biblical Studies.

“For over three decades, Father Mitch Pacwa has been a favorite of EWTN audiences around the globe,” said EWTN Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michael P. Warsaw. “I am confident our viewers will be excited about this newest program which plays to Father Mitch’s strength as a Scripture scholar.”

The best news about this study is that it’s not just for Lent but will carry the faithful through the Easter season and beyond.
