Join the International Week of Prayer and Fasting!

The 25th International Week of Prayer and Fasting will kick off on October 1, Respect Life Sunday, with the goal of conversion of hearts, the building of a culture of life, protection of marriage and family and for peace in the world.

The International Prayer and Fasting Coalition is uniting with The Marian Fathers, the Legion of Mary and Priests for Life and the faithful around the world in a worldwide effort of prayer and fasting from October 1-9.

This grassroots movement of Catholics and other Christians from around the world have participated in a global network of prayer and fasting for 25 years and is open to individuals, families and parishes. This year’s theme is the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart.

Those wishing to participate are asked to sign up online and pledge a variety of prayers and sacrifices such as:

• Fast on bread and water, eating only one meal a day from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

• Pray the Rosary daily (all four mysteries if possible)

• Attend Holy Hour

• Recite the Divine Mercy Chaplet daily

• Consecrate yourself to the Immaculate Heart of Mary & Sacred Heart of Jesus

• Attend Mass daily

• Turn off the television for one week

• Perform the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy

At the end of the nine day vigil, there will be a free one-day prayer event at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC on Monday, October 9. This international prayer event will be an all-day Eucharistic Rosary Vigil with guest speakers, Mass at noon, confessions, and the global living Rosary. Speakers include Immaculee Ilibagiza, Teresa Tomeo, Eric Scheidler and Bishop Joseph N. Perry of Chicago.

Saint Teresa of Calcutta was a big supporter of this prayer and fasting movement. When asked what would convert America and save the world, she responded: “My answer is prayer. What we need is for every parish to come before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in Holy Hours of prayer. The time you spend with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament . . . will help bring about an everlasting peace on earth.”
