Majority of Americans Disapprove of Obama Overturning Mexico City Policy

By Susan Brinkmann, OCDS Staff Writer A new Gallup poll found that a majority of Americans disapprove of President Barack Obama’s decision to overturn the Mexico City Policy that forbids the use of  taxpayer money to fund overseas abortion providers. In a poll taken between Jan. 30 and Feb. 1 among more than 1,000 adults, 58 percent said they disagreed with the decision to overturn the policy with only 35 percent agreeing with it.  While respondents gave him high grades on actions such as tightening ethics rules and establishing special envoys to the Middle East, he also received a low approval rating (44%) on his decision to close down the military prison at Guantanamo Bay. Surprisingly, the public's disapproval of the abortion decision transcended party lines. Most unpopular with Republicans, it was also the least popular decision among Independents and Democrats as well, although a majority of Democrats  (59 %) approved of it. “Obama's decision to reverse the prohibition on funding for overseas family-planning providers may be the least popular thing he has done so far,” the pollsters concluded. Commenting about the poll results to the Christian Newswire, Susan B. Anthony List President Marjori Dannenfelser said: "This week's Gallup poll revealed the truth that President Obama's decision to roll back the commonsense Mexico City Policy is out of step with the attitudes of the majority of American taxpayers.   “I strongly urge President Obama to abandon the radical abortion bailout agenda. Americans want him to endorse policies that actually reduce abortion, not promote it at the taxpayer's expense." © All Rights Reserved, Living His Life Abundantly/Women of Grace. http://www.womenofgrace.com
