Vatican to Issue Handbook on Confession this Year

By Susan Brinkmann, OCDS Staff Writer During an interview on Vatican Radio, Archbishop Mauro Piacenza said the Vatican is planning to publish a handbook on the Sacrament of Reconciliation this year with the hopes of bringing more Catholics back to this vital sacrament. Archbishop Piacenza, an official from the Vatican’s office for clergy, revealed the planned handbook while lamenting the small number of faithful who regularly confess their sins. He said the sacrament of penance has been experiencing a "deep crisis" for decades. Fewer people distinguish between good and evil, he said, and as a result don't go to confession. Without this sense of sin, the faithful are prone to "confuse" confession with "the couch of a psychologist or a psychiatrist." No date has been set for the release of the handbook. © All Rights Reserved, Living His Life Abundantly/Women of Grace. http://www.womenofgrace.com In Go in Peace: Your Guide to the Purpose and Power of Confession, Fr Mitch Pacwa and Sean Brown answer all your questions about this great Sacrament of healing and mercy in an easy Q&A format.
