Satanists to Host Black Mass in Kansas Capitol

A local Satanist group is planning a Black Mass to be held in the Topeka Capitol building on March 28, sparking an outcry from the Church and concerned citizens across the country.

KCTV5.com is reporting on the plans for the Black Mass, hosted by The Satanic Grotto, which claims to be an organization for “Satanists and allies who follow the Left-Hand Path,” which is an occult-based spiritual path.

“Join us at the Topeka Capitol building in Kansas as we dedicate the grounds and our legislature to the glory of Satan,” the group stated in their announcement. “We will be performing rites to the Black Mass and indulging in sacrilegious blaspheme. God will fall and Kansas will be embraced by the black flame of Lucifer.”

The Kansas Catholic Conference has responded by issuing a call to the faithful for prayer to avert this sacrilegious event that is intended to be a mockery of the Mass, and often involves the desecration of a consecrated host.

“If true, this explicit demonstration of anti-Catholic bigotry will be an insult to not only Catholics but to all people of good will,” the bishops said in a statement posted on Facebook. “Spiritual and legal responses are being explored.”

To date, there is no indication that a consecrated host has been acquired for the event.

The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family, and Property (TFP), has launched a nationwide campaign to protest this grave offense against God. A petition drive is underway, and almost thirty thousand signatures have already been gathered from outraged Americans who are asking Kansas Governor Laura Kelly to put a stop to this blatant bigotry.

American TFP Vice President, John Horvat, is calling upon faithful Catholics around the country to take action:

“As a Kansas native, I am appalled that the State Capitol Building is being used to host such a heinous blasphemy. This is not just an offense against God but an attack on the very moral fabric of our state and nation. I urge all God-fearing Americans to take a stand—join us in peaceful protest, sign the petition, and offer prayers of reparation. Now is the time to defend our faith and reject this public affront to God.”

The group is currently seeking a permit to conduct a rally of reparation outside the Capitol that will offer prayers of atonement while the blasphemous ritual is taking place.

As the TFP points out, protests against public Satanism have a history of success. In 2014, when a Black Mass was scheduled at Harvard University, TFP Student Action and other organizations launched petitions that gathered a total of 168,000 signatures. After a flood of public outcry, the sacrilege was canceled.

In 2023, a conference called SatanCon was held in Boston, Massachusetts. Hundreds of Catholics converged upon the city for three days of peaceful rallies of reparation. The following year, SatanCon was canceled. As of now, there are no indications that it will return in 2025 or 2026.

“These victories serve as a reminder of the power of faith and prayer in the face of satanic defiance,” the group says.

UPDATE: As of March 14, Governor Kelly has agreed to move from inside the State House to the grounds surrounding the building. She states that she has “a duty to protect protesters’ constitutional rights to freedom of speech and expression, regardless of how offensive or distasteful I might find the content to be.” However, Catholic League President Bill Donohue says this isn't good enough because it is still being conducted on state-owned property, thereby appearing to condone an act that is "hostilie" to religion, which is forbidden by the U.S. Constitution. The only remedy is to revoke the permit and force the Satanists to stage their event on public grounds. Click here to read more.
