National Rosary Novena Kicks Off August 15!

rosary flagDuring this critical time in our nation’s history, the faithful are being asked to join a new nationwide prayer campaign entitled, “Novena for our Nation” which will begin on August 15 and end on the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary on October 7.

Hosted by the Holy League, which is historically linked to the group formed by Pope St. Pius V during the Battle of Lepanto and is acting under the spiritual guidance of Cardinal Raymond Burke, Catholics across the country are asked to join in the fight against the forces of evil that are overtaking our society with the 54-day Rosary novena.

“We are living in extraordinary times,” the site explains. “Presidential executive actions, US congressional and state legislation as well as court rulings at all levels up to the Supreme Court are in conflict with God’s laws; especially the disregard for the rights of the unborn, elderly and weak in our society and the attacks on marriage and family values.”

At the same time, our society and government are becoming increasingly intolerant of biblically based morality which is impinging on the First Amendment rights of Christians on a daily basis.

It’s obvious that we are in a spiritual battle.

“Extraordinary times call for extraordinary action. In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, and as we enter the centennial year of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima, we are called upon to help turn our country back towards God. We will accomplish that through prayer; prayer that can change hearts, change families, change our communities and change our country. There is no stronger weapon in this Spiritual Battle than the Rosary.”

For this reason, the League is calling upon Christians to pledge to pray the 54-day Rosary novena beginning on August 15 and ending on October 7, 2016, the same day that Christians won a crushing victory over the Ottoman Turks in 1571, thus saving western civilization.

The Rosary novena consists of five decades of the Rosary (one mystery per day) for 27 days in petition, followed by five decades of the Rosary for an additional 27 days in thanksgiving, regardless of whether or not the request has been granted. This format, which consists of the Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious Mysteries, became known as the 54-day Rosary Novena and was given to a young girl named Fortuna Agrelli in 1884 by Our Lady.

Anyone who is able is asked to attend a Rosary Rally which will be held in front of the U.S. Capitol in Washington DC on October 7 to “call out to God in a very special way” at the conclusion of the Novena.

“There is no doubt that our beloved nation is in one of the worst crises which it has ever experienced, a profound moral crisis which generates division on all levels and results in an ever-greater more pervasive violence and killing,” Cardinal Burke said in a statement. “For Roman Catholics, who have always been known for their faith-filled patriotism, the first response to this crisis is fervent prayer and, in particular, prayer through the intercession of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, Mary Immaculate who is also the patroness of our nation.”

Just like Christians did in 1571, they turned to Mary in the faithful recitation of the Rosary when being attacked by the Saracens in Europe and she answered them with an astounding victory.

The same can happen for us today!

“I wholeheartedly endorse the Novena for Our Nation (Starting August 15) and the Rosary Rally on October 7th next, the 445th anniversary of the Battle of Lepanto.” Cardinal Burke said. “I urge as many as are able to participate in these great spiritual works for the sake of our entire nation.”
