Another shocking case of a woman whose abusive partner forced her to swallow abortion drugs he obtained through the mail is increasing the pressure on the FDA to withdraw this deadly Biden-era policy.Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America is reporting on the story of a woman (known only as Patient 1) who lost her child after her partner, Dr. Hassan-James Abbas, a surgery resident at the University of Toledo Medical Center, forced abortion drugs down her throat in the middle of the night.
“ . . . [T]he man admitted to using his estranged wife’s personal information to order the drugs from an out-of-state abortion business and paying for them with his own credit card,” the report states. “He admitted to crushing the drugs to make them dissolve faster, adjusting the dosage and inserting it into the mother’s mouth. The woman allegedly woke up to the man holding her down and forcing the crushed powder inside her.”
According to WTOL.com, Dr. Abbas’ girlfriend told him about the pregnancy on December 7, 2024. He allegedly told her he wanted her to get an abortion but she refused.
“. . .[O]n Dec. 8, 2024, without Patient 1's knowledge, Abbas allegedly ordered Mifepristone and Misoprostol, both prescription abortion medications, from an out-of-state telemedical abortion provider. He allegedly placed the order using his estranged wife's name, date of birth and driver's license number without her knowledge or consent, while using his own credit card, email address and delivery address. The medication was delivered to his address on Dec. 11, 2024.”
Seven days later, at approximately 4 AM, Patient 1 woke up to find Abbas on top of her while forcing a crushed powder into her mouth.
“Patient 1 fought to get away and ran to the kitchen where she called 911. Abbas then allegedly took her phone and hung up the 911 call. A 911 hang-up call was recorded from that location at 4:50 a.m.”
The woman drove herself to a hospital emergency department at 5:50 a.m. where she was listed as an assault victim with a diagnosis of vaginal bleeding. Her baby did not survive.
After conducting its own investigation, the Ohio Medical Board voted to suspend the license of Dr. Abbas, stating that "his continued practice presents a danger of immediate and serious harm to the public. As a result, Dr. Abbas is no longer authorized to practice medicine and surgery in Ohio."
Sadly, stories of women being forced to take abortion drugs obtained via a Biden-era policy that allows them to be ordered by mail, are occurring at an alarming rate. This is especially concerning because reports have found that 60 percent of women who obtain abortions say they were pressured to do so by family or partners. Making these powerful drugs so easily accessible has only increased the likelihood of abuse of these women.
A recent SBA Pro-Life America report details some of the many cases occurring throughout the country today that involve the use of abortion drugs obtained through the mail.
These cases include that of Rosalie Markezich from New Orleans, Louisiana who became pregnant in 2023 and wanted to keep her baby. Her boyfriend did not, and ordered abortion drugs on line which were prescribed by a California doctor who never once spoke to Rosalie. He had the drugs mailed to her home in Louisiana but when she continued to refuse to take them, he drove her to a remote location where no one could help her, then forced her to take the pills. She wanted to run away and vomit up the pills, but it was too late and the baby was lost.
Another case involves a 38-year-old Texas man named Justin Anthony Banta who used abortion drugs ordered online to end the life of his pregnant girlfriend’s baby. The woman had been happy about the pregnancy and had just had a sonogram. Later that day, he spiked her coffee with the drugs, sending her to the emergency room with extreme bleeding. Her baby did not survive.
In an even more shocking case, a woman obtained abortion drugs by mail from a New York doctor and forced her teenage daughter to take them.
“The mother ordered the drugs through an online questionnaire, without any consultation with the daughter, and forced her to take them. Her daughter then experienced a severe medical emergency, prompting a 911 call and hospitalization. Her baby did not survive,” SBA reports.
“Meanwhile, Dr. Margaret Carpenter, the New York abortionist who illegally shipped the drugs to the mom in Texas, is insulated from accountability by her state’s so-called ‘shield law,’ which stops abortion drug dealers from facing consequences when they break laws in other states – even when they kill unborn children and send women and girls to the ER.”
Commenting on the case of Dr. Abbas, SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser is calling upon the FDA to end Joe Biden’s mail-order abortion rule today.
“This horrific case shows exactly how the policy endangers women and empowers abusers. This mother wanted to keep her baby – instead, she and her child were violently assaulted because the FDA allows dangerous abortion drugs to be ordered online with no oversight.”
Every day that this radical policy is left in place costs the lives of more unborn babies and sends more women to the ER.
“Abortion by mail, without ultrasounds, verification, or accountability, is putting women at risk and aiding predators. This mom deserved better – America deserves better.”
