Jennifer Anniston’s new boyfriend, New Age guru Jim Curtis, is all the rage in Hollywood these days, ever since the two were spotted in a romantic pose on a yacht in Mallorca. What do we know about this man who believes he was a Native American in a past life?According to Elle, Curtis, 49, brands himself as a wellness coach, author and hypnotherapist who has authored two books on healing and transformation.
A quick review of his website confirms that his teachings are all based in New Age ideology.
For example, his “Hypno-Coaching” approach allegedly helps his clients “uncover and release the subconscious blocks holding you back, rewire your inner programming, and awaken the truth of who you really are.”
It’s not just about positive thinking, he claims, “it’s about deep embodied transformation rooted in neuroscience, intuitive insight, and soul alignment.”
The only problem is that I can find no indication that this man is a trained neuroscientist. He seems to have catapulted his career from an appearance on the Maury Povich show 30 years ago where he was invited to be hypnotized live on TV by Dr. Brian Weiss, a past life regression therapist. During this episode, he was told that he was a Native American in a past life.
The Daily Mail reports that Curtis brought up this life-changing experience last month on Emily Fletcher’s podcast, “Why Isn’t Everyone Doing This?”
“The first time I was regressed into a past life was with Dr. Brian Weiss. . .I realized I was a Native American Indian. He took me back to the point of my death and I was killed. I was shot.”
He went on to become a hypnotherapist himself.
His link to Anniston came through his work, which she had been following on Instagram for several years before a friend introduced them. They bonded on a mutual love for dogs, self-help, and the spiritual life.
As the Daily Mail explains, “Aniston's interest in spirituality and wellness can be seen throughout her home, where she has an outdoor 'zen' area with a bubbling water pot and spiritual temple structure… She has also adorned the inside of her home with Buddha statues and other spiritual figures.”
Although these two appear to be the perfect couple, we can only hope their relationship is built on more than New Age fabrications.
