Located in the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountain Range in France, is the market town of Lourdes, the site of the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to a fourteen year-old peasant girl, Bernadette Soubirous, in 1858. Millions of pilgrims come to Lourdes every year to enter the healing baths. They contain the miraculous waters that first appeared there when, at Our Lady’s request, Bernadette dug into the ground. Serving the needs of the sick and infirm are thousands of volunteer and medical personnel. Today we will talk with Marlene Watkins, founder of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospitality North American Volunteers, an apostolate that tends to the needs of the sick and infirm pilgrims who travel to Lourdes, as well as the Dr. Linda Satterlee, the apostolate’s medical director. They will tell us about their work and their experiences in the field.
