Since the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to fourteen year-old Bernadette Soubirous in Lourdes, France in 1858, pilgrims have flocked to this tiny market town tucked into the foothills of the Pyrenees. While they come for a variety of reasons, the vast majority of sojourners make their pilgrimage to enter into the healing baths, reservoirs of the miraculous waters that bubbled up in the grotto where Our Lady appeared. But others come, too, including thousands of volunteers who assist the sick, the infirm, and the disabled. Today we will meet two such people who will share their personal stories with us as well as the incredible apostolate that has grown up around their efforts.
