WGR11409, Distinguishing Fact from Fiction: Dispelling the Myths about the Catholic Church, Part 5
9/28/2018
(Program 11409) Christopher Kaczor, Fr. Scott Borgman
It cannot be denied that the scandal of sexual abuse by Catholic priests has been one of the Church’s greatest sufferings and sorrows of this century. Many of the faithful were plunged into doubt and near despair as one news story after the other reported the claims of abuse by priests. Others lost their faith or left it altogether.
For the victims and their families and friends, it was an unimaginable suffering, a traumatic memory that has yet to be healed. And to them we extend our compassion and prayers.
The reason often cited for the abuse scandal is priestly celibacy. Is celibacy the cause, does it play a part, or is this just a myth? This is and these questions are what we will discuss with our guests today.
