From its earliest days the Church loomed as an emerging threat in the eyes of the establishment of the time. And so it was that there was nothing easy about the life and mission of the apostles in the early day’s of the Church’s history.
In fact, their mission and message would lead all but one of them to a brutal and torturous death, in some cases, a near image of their Master’s crucifixion.
But they were not the only ones to die for the faith – many of the early Christians gave their lives for the Gospel message. What does their witness tell us? What can we learn from them? And what does it take to be a martyr?
