One saint remarked that the greatest cross of all is no cross at all. Such is the disposition of a heart that knows how to mine the treasure of grace that present in every struggle, trial, pain, and tribulation that we experience if we suffer well.

And to suffer well means to suffer in union with Christ. Theology gives us a name for that kind of suffering – it’s called redemptive suffering. And Saint John Paul the Second understood it well.
