Pope Leo XVI’s first Urbi et Orbi was devoted to calling upon the world to embrace the peace of Christ who freed us all from the “dominion of evil,”, not a peace “imposed by force.”
Just a day after delivering a powerful Urbi Et Orbi message calling upon the world to embrace humility and peace, Pope Francis expressed hope that the world community will not be “silent and inactive” in the fact of the unspeakable crimes being committed against Christians around the world.
Pope Francis’ issued his first Urbi et Orbi address at Christmas to implore the world to pray for true peace, for the suffering victims of war and persecution, especially the most vulnerable of all – the little children.

Reflecting on the theme of the Israelite’s exodus from slavery to the Egyptians, Pope Benedict XVI’s Urbi et Orbi message delivered yesterday in St. Peter’s Square calls for each of us to experience our own “exodus” from slavery to sin into the promised land of faith in Jesus Christ. He also prayed for peace in the world and a “resurrection” from the despair and mourning in earthquake ravaged Haiti and Chile, the conflicts in Africa and the violent drug wars afflicting so many in Latin America and the Caribbean.
