California Supreme Court Upholds Ban on Gay-Marriage

In a 6-1 decision, the California Supreme Court ruled to uphold a voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage known as Proposition 8. The also ruling allows the estimated 18,000 gay couples who married before the law took effect to remain married.

After several hours of oral arguments, justices on the California Supreme Court seemed unlikely to overturn Proposition 8, a Nov. 4 ballot initiative in which the people of California voted to amend their constitution to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

Catholic Bishops Condemn Bigoted TV Commercial

The California Catholic Conference is condemning a blatantly bigoted television commercial that will air today by opponents of a proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. The commercial depicts supposed missionaries invading a gay couples home and ripping up their marriage license.
