There may be a decrease in marriage rates and the number of couples who feel that they need to be married in the Church – but experts in Catholic marriage preparation say they are seeing an uptick in the number of couples who are civilly married who now want to enter into sacramental marriage.

Pope: Marriage is not a “Right”

In an address to members of the Tribunal of the Roman Rota, the Vatican office that decides annulments, Pope Benedict asked priests to do a better job of screening candidates for marriage and to feel free to decline a nuptial ceremony because “no one can make a claim to the right to a nuptial ceremony.”
