In a move that is sure to cause a great deal of debate among the faithful, the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith (DDF) issued a Doctrinal Note today declaring the use of Marian titles such as “Co-Redemptrix” and “Mediatrix” as inappropriate because they “do not favor a correct understanding of Mary’s unique place.”

New Efforts to Name Mary as Co-Redemptrix
Earlier this year, the Theological Commission of the International Marian Association submitted a 10-page document to Pope Francis requesting that he publicly acknowledge Mary as the Co-Redemptrix with Jesus the Redeemer during the 2017 centenary of the Marian apparitions of Fatima.
