Less than 24 hours after President Barack Obama bashed lobbyists during his State of the Union address, his administration was inviting lobbyists to participate in private briefings on some of the topics raised during the speech.

In an effort to counter the growing opposition to Congress’ proposed health care reform, the U.S. drug industry has authorized its lobbyists to invest as much as $150 million on television commercials supporting the plan. Billionarie George Soros is also reputed to have promised $5 million toward promotion of the overhaul.
