USCCB Takes on White House

Spokespersons for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) are taking on the White House for its consistently misleading claims about abortion coverage in health care reform, and are expressing their disappointment that the Senate Finance Committee passed a bill that contains many problematic provisions.

White House Rebukes U.S. Bishops over Abortion Funding

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs says U.S. Catholic bishops are wrong in their belief that abortion funded is included in health care reform, once again making the misleading claim that an existing amendment prohibiting federal funding of abortion, known as the Hyde amendment, would prevent this from happening.

Official says Obama’s “Robust” Conscience Protection Promise is Phony

Even though President Barack Obama promised a “robust” conscience clause protecting health care workers, a former official of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) says his $635 billion off-budget reserve fund includes principles that will deny health providers the freedom to choose not to kill unborn babies through abortion.
