US Bishops Call for Urgent Action on Threats to Conscience Protection

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has launched a national program aimed at encouraging the faithful to take a stand against a recent decision by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to require all private health plans to include coverage for contraception, sterilization, and related “patient education and counseling” services for women.

Bishops Issue Stinging Condemnation of HHS Plan to Mandate Contraceptive Coverage

Cardinal Daniel DiNardo of Galveston-Houston, chairman of the Committee on Pro-Life Activities of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has issued a statement that strongly opposes the recommendation of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) mandate coverage of surgical sterilization and all FDA-approved birth control in private health insurance plans nationwide.
