US Bishops Call for Reparations for LA Dodgers’ Blasphemy

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has issued a statement calling upon Catholics to pray the Litany of the Sacred Heart and make an act of reparation to the Lord on June 16, the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart, for the blasphemies committed against Him, particularly the honoring of the profane Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence by the LA Dodgers which will take place on the same day.

“This year, on June 16—the day of the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus—a professional baseball team has shockingly chosen to honor a group whose lewdness and vulgarity in mocking our Lord, His Mother, and consecrated women cannot be overstated. This is not just offensive and painful to Christians everywhere; it is blasphemy,” the bishops said.

They went on to express their gratitude to the many faithful Catholics and others of good will who have rallied against this outrageous decision by the Dodgers and have had the courage to state the truth – “what this group does is wrong, and it is wrong to honor them.”

Initially, the Dodgers disinvited the Sisters after receiving a deluge of complaints about the award, but blowback from LGBTQ groups caused them to re-invite them. The Catholic League responded by compiling a report of the atrocities committed by the Sisters and sending it to over 300 parishes in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles asking Catholics not to attend the event.

As the report states, the sisters have been engaging in hateful conduct against Christians since 1979. The group consists of men who dress in nun’s habits and conduct activities such as staging the “Hunky Jesus” show every year on Easter. They have hosted a Good Friday Fetish Fashion Show, a Midnight Confessional Contest, and a Condom Savior Mass in Union Square where they referred to Jesus as “the Condom Savior” and burned an effigy of the Pope.

The idea of honoring such blatant bigotry has horrified Catholics throughout the country, especially those in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles where the award is taking place.

“The forthcoming Dodgers event honoring a group that mocks women religious, and worse, desecrates the Cross, profanes the Eucharist, and disrupts Holy Mass has caused disappointment, dismay, and pain in our Catholic community, as well as among our fellow Christians and people of good will,” the LACatholic posted on their website. “The Archdiocese of Los Angeles stands for the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which means we stand against any form of bigotry, hate, or sacrilege.”

To repair for this egregious offense against the Heart of Jesus, which calls us to love and respect all people, the bishops are calling upon Catholics “to pray the Litany of the Sacred Heart on June 16, offering this prayer as an act of reparation for the blasphemies against our Lord we see in our culture today.”
