Our hope is in the Lord

Our world is fraught with fear, division and violence. Many of us feel weighed down by the burdens that overwhelm our country and we seek to be part of the solution to problems beyond our comprehension. Our hope is in the Lord.

Today’s mass readings seemed to have been plucked by God hand from heaven and placed into the mind of the Church for this our day in time:

Beloved:
Wait for and hasten the coming of the day of God,
because of which the heavens will be dissolved in flames
and the elements melted by fire.
But according to his promise
we await new heavens and a new earth
in which righteousness dwells.

Therefore, beloved, since you await these things,
be eager to be found without spot or blemish before him,
at peace.
And consider the patience of our Lord as salvation.

Therefore, beloved, since you are forewarned,
be on your guard not to be led into the error of the unprincipled
and to fall from your own stability.
But grow in grace
and in the knowledge of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
To him be glory now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
-2 Peter 3:12-15A, 17-18

This scripture passage offers us some practical reminders about who we are and what we are about. We are the beloved of God, pilgrims in this land, journeying together toward the new heaven and new earth that is promised us. We are to await the coming of the Lord in patience, peace, and holiness. And we are to guard against sin and seek the grace and knowledge of Our Lord, which comes through the Holy Spirit.

As the world goes up in flames before our eyes, let us beg the Holy Spirit, whose feast we have just celebrated, for a tsunami of His grace to overwhelm our land with massive conversion. May we be united under our leader, Jesus Christ, who is our way, our truth and our life.

We continue our pilgrim journey desiring to live the Fatima message, interceding by way of the Rosary for our most urgent needs and we ask Our Lady, spouse of the Holy Spirit, to form us into powerful instruments of peace and healing. Throughout history, she has come to the aid of God’s people and helped to change the course of history. Let it be so today.
