Custody of the Tongue

August 13

“The tongue is a ‘restless evil, full of deadly poison.'”
  -James 3:8
Today’s Reflection:

Custody of the tongue demands that we use our gift of speech to build up the Body of Christ rather than to tear it down. Unkind words, obscene language, calumny, detraction, and slander are all sins that use the tongue to cause strife, rancor, suspicion, and division.  How carefully we must guard it so that it does not become a source of sin for us.
Rather than infecting the world with poisonous venom, we should use our gift of speech to bring praise and glory to God, and truth and hope to His people.
