Ask, Seek, Knock

July 30

“Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”
-Matthew 7:7-8
Today’s Reflection:
So many times, people only petition God for the needs of others rather than their own needs.  Perhaps we don’t think our needs are worthy of God’s attention. Perhaps we think we can handle things on our own.  These attitudes of heart do not come from God.  They are most likely rooted in pride, presumption, or a poor understanding of God’s love for us.  While interceding for others is part of our Christian obligation, we err by not asking the Father to meet our needs as well.
God wants us to ask Him to meet our needs and He wants to heal us of anything that would prevent us from doing so.
What is holding me back from asking God to meet my needs?  What needs to be healed in order for me to truly ask and receive?
