The creators of the Manhattan Declaration have submitted a revised app to Apple CEO Steve Jobs with the hopes that the company will reconsider its controversial decision to remove the app because of a small number of complaints from gay activists.
The Daily Caller is reporting that the revised Manhattan Declaration app does not include a questionnaire that seemed to be the focus of the complaints.
“In reading some of the blogs and press on the Manhattan Declaration app, we understand that one element of the app, the poll, seemed particularly offensive to those who asked for the app’s removal,” said Chuck Colson, founder of the Colson Center for Christian Worldview founder and Manhattan Declaration drafter. “As a sign of goodwill, we have removed the poll and have resubmitted the app without it.”
The poll asked questions such as “Do you believe in protecting life from the moment of conception? Yes or No?” and “Do you support same-sex relationships? Yes or No?” Points were awarded depending on how the questions were answered.
In an e-mail to supporters, the Manhattan Declaration said the questionnaire “was a lightning rod for gay activists” even though the questions only reaffirmed what is already in the document. Because the questionnaire was an add-on, and not essential to the document, the Manhattan Declaration deleted it from the app and resubmitted it along with 43,000 signatures requesting that it be restored.
Thus far, there has been no response from Apple to the new app.
