New HBO Series Delivers Prime-Time Porn

A new HBO series, The Deuce, which is based on the story of the legalization and rise of the porn industry and airing during prime time, is causing outrage across the nation for its explicit sex scenes.

Newbusters is reporting on the new show, created by the Karl Marx-supporting David Simon, which documents the rise of the porn industry in New York City in the 1970’s.

“If a plot like that doesn’t make your stomach churn, get your supply of eye-bleach ready for what’s sadly up to be the latest hit show on HBO’s hands, writes Newsbusters’ Lindsay Kornick, “because this story, along with HBO itself, is all too ready to remind us that sex sells.”

The pilot, which aired on September 10 and drew more than 830,000 viewers, follows characters ranging from mob members to street pimps and sex workers in an essentially plotless hour-long peep-show which features full frontal nudity of males and females.

One of the sex scenes in the pilot involved an under-age girl who was purchased by a group of boys for a “sexually hungry” friend who then takes her to a hotel room. Another scene features a college student engaging in sexual acts with a professor and later escaping a drug charge by having relations with the police officer. The pilot contained a total of five explicit sex scenes which left nothing to the imagination.

Most distressing of all is that this was just the pilot for a show that is airing in the middle of prime time on Sunday evenings at 9:00 p.m. EST!

“If this is all we’ve had to deal with in the pilot, I’m terrified about what the next seven episodes of the season will bring,” Kornick writes. “We haven’t even gotten to the plots which will eventually cover the porn industry and the gay community following Stonewall. I can only imagine what the scenes about actual porn will look like, though I don’t want to.”

Even the liberal New York Times, which gave the series a glowing review, noted that “the nudity is copious and graphic.”

The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property (TFP) has organized a petition drive with the goal of sending 5,000 emails to Richard Plepler, CEO of HBO, demanding that the show be cancelled.

“This is the absolute breakdown of all decency and purity,” TFP writes. “Rather than ‘teach’ the history of the porn ‘industry’ by showing graphic nude scenes, HBO should be promoting the virtue of purity for the good of our children and society.”

Instead, they are “directly promoting a vice that corrupts the soul. Like drug dependency, pornography is a vicious addiction. This moral filth should not be allowed for anyone to view.”

Kornick couldn’t agree more. “The newest low of television has apparently found a shovel, and if society is just a result of culture, then we’re digging to hell in a 90-minute hand basket.”
