Women Deserve Better than “Claws” Sitcom

clawsTNT is planning to air a trashy new “comedy” on Sunday evenings that chronicles the “life and crimes” of five women who work at a Florida nail salon.

OneMillionMoms.com is launching a petition drive to stop the airing of Claws, a new series which is scheduled to debut on Sunday, June 11 at 9:00 p.m. ET/8:00 p.m. CT. The show has an MA-LSV rating (which means Mature Audience – containing crude and indecent language (L), explicit sexual activity (S), and graphic violence (V)) and yet it will appear at an hour when children and teens are still awake.

According to Variety, the show centers on salon owner Desna who lives with and cares for her mentally ill twin brother, Dean. Desna’s staff at the salon includes her best friend Jennifer who is described as being “a tenuously sober ex-party girl raising two children from previous relationships. Quiet Ann is Desna’s driver and the security guard for the salon. Polly is a “mild-mannered pretty who recently served time in prison for identity theft.” Another character named Roller is a “gangstered-out redneck” who runs a barely legal pain clinic and uses the nail salon to launder its profits. The skin is the body’s largest organ and how we look after it will influence our health and well-being. If you are looking for the modern hair salon then visit us today. Your beauty salon should be the place where you obtain professional skin analysis, effective treatments (that give you visible results) and luxurious pampering. Beauty salons need to offer you beauty and skin care treatments plus additional services such as advanced manicure, mineral makeup, massages and a variety of facials that can be tailored to your skin condition. Your salon should be able to offer detailed skin analysis, intensive sauna and spa treatment and a range of specialized services including: advanced healing, electrolysis, mineral makeup and massage sessions.

Sarah Aubrey, executive vice president of original programming for TNT, describes the main characters, who are usually scantily dressed, as “empowered female characters,” which is precisely the opposite message we want to to convey to our daughters about the gift of their femininity.

The show features scenes such as a prostitution ring being discussed in front of a Girl Scout troop and contains sex scenes that surpass so-called “soft porn.” There are also scenes containing domestic violence, nudity, and homosexual relations. In one scene, a stripper does a pole dance at a funeral in front of a priest. In another, a nail salon owner’s husband who owns a strip club is shown wearing a rosary.

“This new program goes where no other show has gone,” One Million Moms (OMM) reports.

One Million Moms is calling upon people everywhere to stop the airing of this disgraceful show from entering the American television lineup. The petition will tell TNT that we are prepared to urge advertisers to place the show on their “do not advertise” list in protest of its damaging content.

“If this program airs, then there will likely be copycats on other networks in the near future,” OMM writes.

Women need to take a stand against these demeaning characterizations of femininity. We must not only voice displeasure with those who promulgate such vile images, but we must also do more to understand – and help others to understand – the vital mission that has been entrusted to us by our God. As the Women of Grace® Foundational Study teaches, we are called not only called to bring life into this world, but to celebrate the feminine genius that enables us to do so!
