NC Parents Battle Transgender Indoctrination in Schools

jacob's new dressThe state of North Carolina is fast becoming “ground zero” in the gender ideology wars. First it was the state’s controversial bathroom bill that touched off a vigorous national debate last year on rules governing bathroom use; now it’s about a book for first-graders that promotes transgender behavior.

Writing for Breitbart, Dr. Susan Berry is reporting on the latest controversy occurring in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school district (CMS) which was following guidelines for becoming a “Welcoming School” set forth by the radical gay advocacy group, Human Rights Campaign, by introducing first graders to a transgender-validating book entitled, Jacob’s New Dress. The book is about a boy who loves to play dress-up and comes to school wearing a dress. His male peers think he shouldn’t be allowed to wear girls’ clothes to school. Jacob struggles to convince his parents that it’s okay to let him wear whatever he wants.

The book is described as a “heartwarming story” that “speaks to the unique challenges faced by boys who don’t identify with traditional gender roles.”

Parent, teachers and lawmakers didn’t find this rather blatant attempt to indoctrinate children in the confusing world of today’s gender ideologists to be very “heartwarming.” Instead, one of the teachers raised concerns about it at a school board meeting and brought it to the attention of lawmakers.

The ensuring backlash caused CMS to remove the book from the curriculum and substitute Red: A Crayon’s Story instead.

The only problem with the move is that the substituted book is also about the same subject – just uses crayons to make the same point.

For example, as the review states:

red a crayon's story“Red has a bright red label, but he is, in fact, blue. His teacher tries to help him be red (let’s draw strawberries!), his mother tries to help him be red by sending him out on a playdate with a yellow classmate (go draw a nice orange!), and the scissors try to help him be red by snipping his label so that he has room to breathe. But Red is miserable. He just can’t be red, no matter how hard he tries! Finally, a brand-new friend offers a brand-new perspective, and Red discovers what readers have known all along. He’s blue! This funny, heartwarming, colorful picture book about finding the courage to be true to your inner self can be read on multiple levels, and it offers something for everyone.”

As Dr. Berry reports, Amazon shows this book as being bought by the same people who purchased Jacob’s New Dress and Jazz, a book about a boy who wants to become a girl.

Needless to say, people are not satisfied with the way the progressives at CMS are stubbornly pushing their progressive ideology on the children in their school district.

“The purpose of our elementary schools is to teach writing, reading, and arithmetic, not to encourage boys to wear dresses,” Tami Fitzgerald, executive director of NC Values Coalition, said in a statement.

“CMS is failing our children; in the recent 2016 state academic ratings, 43 of 165 CMS schools achieved overall pass rates below 50% and a majority (59%) earned a grade of C or below when measuring student proficiency and growth. . . We encourage CMS to refocus on their mission of maximizing academic achievement instead of advancing this controversial curriculum.”

These school administrators are foisting a message on children that sexual attitudes can be chosen, diverse, and fluid, “despite the risk of derailing some children’s normal maturation into healthy and stable young men and young women,” Dr. Berry writes.

“Pro-transgender groups and their progressive political allies are trying to shape the early development of children, but are being rejected by the public and resisted by mainstream professional and pro-family groups.”
