Nine Days for Life Novena Kicks Off January 21

9 days for lifeEven if you can’t make the March for Life in Washington DC on January 27, you can still get involved in this time dedicated to publicly defending life by joining in a nine-day digital novena for Life hosted by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).

LifeSiteNews is reporting on the novena which is scheduled to run from January 21 through the 29. Accessible through email, text message, Facebook or a free iOS or Android app, each day’s one-page prayer guide focuses on a different intention and is comprised of five short sections: Intercession, prayers, reflection, acts of reparation, and One Step Further.

While the overarching intention of the novena is the end to abortion, it also addresses topics spanning across the range of life issues.

“Your prayers matter and your sacrifices make a difference,” the USCCB’s Pro-Life Committee says about the Nine Days for Life campaign.

“Each January 22 our nation marks the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court case which legalized abortion during all nine months of pregnancy,” the Bishops explained in their invitation to participate in the novena. “Since that tragic decision, more than 56 million children’s lives have been lost to abortion, and many suffer that loss — often in silence.”

“As Catholics, we recognize the inherent dignity of every person in every circumstance and at every stage of life — from conception to death,” they continued. “Yet we continue to see many threats to life and violence against it. We cannot look the other way.”

The USCCB website is offering a wide range of materials for the novena including information on how to organize local gatherings and a social media toolkit that includes graphics and texts to post every day, as well as the hashtag #9daysforlife.

In a promotional video for the novena, New York’s Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the USCCB chair for the Committee on Pro-Life Activities, calls upon everyone to join in, reminding that “Nine Days For Life is a great way to put our faith into action.”
