Feast of the Guardian Angels

They come, God’sFeast Guardian Angels6 messengers of love,
They come from realms of peace above,
From homes of never-fading light,
From blissful mansions ever bright.

They come to watch around us here,
To soothe our sorrow, calm our fear:
Ye heavenly guides, speed not away,
God willeth you with us to stay.

But chiefly at its journey’s end
‘Tis yours the spirit to befriend,
And whisper to the willing heart,
“O Christian soul, in peace depart.”

To us the zeal of angels give,
With love to serve thee while we live;
To us an angel-guard supply,
When on the bed of death we lie.

To God the Father, God the Son,
And God the Spirit, Three in One,
From all above and all below
Let joyful praise unceasing flow.
Robert Campbell

For Reflection:

Today, make a fifteen minute meditation recalling the many ways your guardian angel has protected you spiritually and physically through the years. Thank your angel for all he has done for you.

30.TO GROW IN FAITH
30.2. Asking the Lord for a firm faith.
There is such a thing as a dead faith which does not save. It is a faith without works. It is to be found wherever life is separated from belief. There is also such a thing as a dormant faith. This cowardly lifestyle is also known as a ‘lukewarmness’. Practically speaking, lukewarmness is the worst thing than can infect a Christian. It can contaminate even those who think themselves very good Christians…Only the light of faith and meditation on the Word Of God can enable us to find everywhere and always the God ‘in whom we live and exist’ (Acts 17:28); only thus can we seek his will in everything, see Christ in all men, acquaintance or stranger, make sound judgments on the true meaning and value of temporal realities both in themselves and in relation to man’s end.
