INTRODUCTION

While Mary is the paradigm of feminine authority, it is not enough to study Mary as if she were the only true expression of the Church. If feminine authority is real, it must be concrete in the lives of Christian women generally. If authority is connected to the ability to give life and the exercise of responsibility for life, then Christians will have a new place to begin in this appreciation.  The theology of authority articulated in this book may hope to have a deep impact on understanding the nature of the Church whose essence exists in her sacramental and liturgical life.
