INTRODUCTION

But authority ultimately has little to do with such things. In fact, frequently the holding of visible office and power over others amounts to the exact opposite of authority, its abuse and deformation. Recently a Milwaukee parish priest offered an excellent definition of authority that well serve as a working definition for this book. He stated: “Originally authority merely implied those rights which the Author exercised in order to correctly maintain the created work.”
