Feast of St. Elizabeth of Hungary (1207 – 1231)

“I declare before God that I have seldom seenSt ElizabethHungary1 a more contemplative woman. When she was coming from private prayer, some religious men and women often saw her face shining marvelously and light coming from her eyes like the rays of the sun.”

     ~Conrad of Marburg, spiritual director
       of St. Elizabeth of Hungary

For Reflection:

Pope John Paul II called for us to contemplate the face of Jesus in the Year of the Eucharist (2004-2005). Read 2 Cor. 3:18. How does this passage explain the phenomena related in this quotation about St. Elizabeth. How does this encourage me to follow the Holy Father’s instruction.
