The lies about the services provided by Planned Parenthood are so deeply imbued in the nation’s consciousness that not even a contestant at the Miss America pageant was able to accurately answer a question about their federal funding.

Popsugar.com, an online fashion magazine reported on the wildly inaccurate response given by Miss Tennessee, Hannah Robison, at Sunday night’s Miss America pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Robison was asked the question by pageant judge and former Miss America winner Vanessa Williams who cautioned her to “take a breath – it’s a tough one” before asking: “Some legislators are threatening to shut down the government over federal contributions to Planned Parenthood even though no federal funds can be used for abortion. Should Planned Parenthood funding be cut off?”

Robison answers: “I don’t think Planned Parenthood funding should be cut off. The $500 million that gets given to Planned Parenthood every single year goes to female care. It goes for scanning for cancers, it goes for mammograms, and if we don’t give that funding to Planned Parenthood, those women will be out of health care for reproductive causes.”

The audience let out a roar of approval which only proved that not only was the contestant way off the mark but the attendees were no better informed.

Planned Parenthood does not offer mammograms and the organization is a very small player in the field of women’s healthcare. As this article explains, Planned Parenthood serves 2.7 million a year compared to 21 million women who are served through a vast network of community health centers in the U.S.

The good news in all this is that Planned Parenthood’s foothold in the U.S. is based on lies and a reliance on the populace remaining gullible – two factors that were seriously shaken recently by the baby parts scandal.

We can only pray that the public hearings scheduled to take place in Congress over the next few months will continue to shine a light on the truth and continue the slow but steady process of exposing the facts about Planned Parenthood that every American woman deserves to hear.
