Is Christianity Becoming a Hate Crime?

A firestorm erupted this week over an interview in which Republican presidential candidate Senator Marco Rubio said aloud what many of us, including Church leaders, have been thinking for quite a while – if the bullying tactics of gay activists are allowed to continue, this nation will soon be declaring Christianity as hate-speech.

FoxNews.com is reporting on the conversation Rubio had with David Brody of CBN News’ on Tuesday.

“If you think about it, we are at the water’s edge of the argument that mainstream Christian teaching is hate speech,” Rubio said. “Because today, we’ve reached the point in our society where if you do not support same-sex marriage you are labeled a homophobe and a hater.”

“So what’s the next step after that?” Brody asked.

“After they are done going after individuals, the next step is to argue that the teachings of mainstream Christianity, the catechism of the Catholic Church is hate speech and there’s a real and present danger,” Rubio warned.

Within minutes, the pro-gay mainstream media, along with their pals in the gay activist movement, proved the senator right by instantly labeling him “anti-gay”. No one gave a moment’s thought to the common sense point Rubio was trying to make – we can’t continue to go this far to protect one class of people if it means trampling on the rights of others. If we do, we will end up making Christianity – which is the moral basis of our Constitution and the religion of choice for a vast majority of Americans –  a hate crime! But instead of considering the sheer lunacy of this position, pro-gay forces did what they do best – shut down all debate by politicizing the comments and making Rubio into a “hater”.

We the People“The lunacy never ends,” writes Catholic League president Bill Donohue.

He went on to list some of the more outrageous examples of this madness, such as the traditional marriage conference recently held at Stanford University which was not only condemned as ‘anti-gay’ but was believed to be dangerous because it could provoke a “significant increase in suicides among homosexuals.”

“Two years ago, the CEO of Starbucks said that if anyone didn’t like his company’s pro-gay marriage policy, ‘you can sell your shares in Starbucks and buy shares in another company’,” Donohue writes. “He said this while saying Starbucks wants to ‘embrace diversity of all kinds.’ Save for diversity of thought.”

Cardinal Raymond Burke was preaching at a Mass at Oxford on the same day that Rubio’s remarks were made. Quoting Pope Benedict XVI, he warned of the dangers of a “dictatorship of relativism which does not recognize anything as definitive and does not recognize any goal except the ego and its desires. Such a culture wrongly views Christians as fundamentalists and extremists,” he said.

Which means those of us who believe in the peaceful and loving Gospel of Jesus Christ are slowly being pigeon-holed into the same wild-eyed and murderous category as ISIS and al Qaida.

How is this possible?

Easy! As long as we continue to allow the prevailing political correctness to run amok in our culture rather than putting a stop to the madness that it has become, we will continue to be its victims. So how do we stop it?

By wielding our mightiest weapon – prayer – and then taking practical steps to begin to turn the tide.

iStock_000005506764_SmallFor instance, we can stop supporting media outlets who preach a pro-gay philosophy at the expense of Christianity and routinely portray Christians in a negative light (i.e., mainstream media outlets such as ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, etc.). All these companies care about are “eye balls” – how many people are watching their channel. At least two of these outlets – MSNBC and CNN – are struggling due to loss of viewership. If enough of us stop watching this propaganda, watch how quickly they change their tune!

We can rally around the bakers, photographers, and restaurant owners who are maligned for standing up for their beliefs.

When corporations react to bullying from gay activists, such as what happened in Indiana and Mississippi this year over laws designed to protect Christians from being forced to serve same-sex weddings, we can counter that pressure by calling these companies and offering our support for their business.

We can become much more involved in our nation’s schools and use the strength of our numbers to pressure administrators into dropping bogus “anti-bullying” programs that are indoctrinating our children into homosexuality.

We can ask our pastors to do more to educate the Catholic population on the Church’s real teachings on the issue of homosexuality so that we are better able to defend ourselves against false charges of being “bigots” and “haters”. Nothing could be further from the truth!

Most important of all, we can vote out of office any legislator who backs so-called “anti-discrimination” laws and other legislation that threatens the religious liberties of American Christians.

As Donohue states, “Rubio is right to warn that we are getting to the point where the Catholic Catechism will be condemned by the high priests of tolerance for its alleged hate speech on sexuality. Our side needs to respond with vigor. The Gaystapo is on the move.”

And only we can stop them!
