Diners at Waffle House in Prattville, Alabama were brought to tears last weekend after watching a little boy pray with a homeless man.

WSFA is reporting on the story of five year-old Josiah Duncan and his mother, Ava Faulk, who were going into the local Waffle House for a meal when they saw a homeless man standing outside.

Josiah was troubled by the man’s dirty appearance and started asking his mother questions such as what does being homeless mean? Where is his house? Where is his family? Where does he keep his groceries?

But one thing troubled Josiah most of all – the fact that he didn’t have any food.

He began to beg his mother to invite the stranger into the restaurant and get him a good meal. After a few minutes, she relented.

“He came in and sat down, and nobody really waited on him,” Faulk told WSFA. “So Josiah jumped up and asked him if he needed a menu because you can’t order without one.”

At first, the man said a simple cheeseburger would do but Faulk insisted he could have anything he wanted.

“Can I have bacon?” Faulk remembers him asking, “And I told him get as much bacon you want.”

The man ordered the works.

But just before he took the first bite, Josiah jumped up and said he wanted to “say the blessing” with him.

Out loud, and in front of all the other patrons in the restaurant, Josiah sang the blessing.

“God our Father, God our Father, we thank you, we thank you, for our many blessings, for our many blessings, Amen, Amen.”

“The man cried. I cried. Everybody cried,” Faulk admitted.

After eating his meal, the man went on his way.

Faulk believes the man was an angel. “You never know who the angel on Earth is, and when the opportunity comes you should never walk away from it.”

She added: “Watching my son touch the 11 people in that Waffle House tonight will be forever one of the greatest accomplishments as a parent I’ll ever get to witness.”

This display of compassion, charity and faith by a five year-old boy gave us all a tiny glimpse of that great day to come when the prophet Isaiah promises that “. . . (A) little child shall lead them. . . . “ (Isaiah 11:6)
