“Leave at the door of the place where youPrayer St John Damascene-St Thomas Aquinas are going to converse with God all extraneous thoughts, saying, with St. Bernard, “O my thoughts, wait here. After prayer we shall speak about other matters.”                                                           -St. Alphonsus Liguori

For Reflection:
How can the strategy offered by St. Alphonsus Liguori help me as I enter into prayer? In what practical ways can I change my environment to make sure I can leave my thoughts “at the door of the place” where I pray?

Remember that if a demon is causing an uproar, it is a sign that he is still on the outside and not on the inside of you. What we need to be terrified about is a demon that is at peace and has harmony with a human soul…You need to defend yourselves by sending the devil away and scorning his malignant insinuations.
